Mrs. Frances Maye Tew, 93

In Love and Appreciation

Frances Maye Thomas Tew, loving wife of Weston Leo Tew for 61 years, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. She was 93 years old. She lived in Raleigh, NC, for 22 years until the death of her husband in 2003. She lived in Wake County and briefly in Alamance County before spending the last year of her life with her daughter Betty Tew in Apex, NC.

Frances was the daughter of Frank Watson Thomas and Lois Maye Folsom of Darlington County, SC. Frances is survived by her two daughters Teresa Tew and Betty Tew; her son, Weston Leo Tew, Jr.; two grandchildren, Matthew McCaughey and Sarah Tew; one great grandchild, Aidan McCaughey, and her sister Ruth Cartee. Her other three siblings, Wilbur Thomas, Charles Thomas, and Elizabeth McElveen preceded her in death.

Frances had a great appreciation for art and music. She was an avid oil painter during her mid-adult years. She could play popular songs on the piano by ear with her own stylistic arrangements.

Frances also loved making her home a beautiful place for her family to enjoy. She studied interior design and worked part time in real estate as a relief agent. Later in her life she pursued her love of poetry and wrote two poetry collections expressing both her memoirs and her love of beauty. Most of all she loved her family and her greatest joy was celebrating with them on all the holidays and birthdays.

Frances was loved and admired by all who knew her for her kind and caring ways. Her gifts for loving and uplifting others will remain forever in our hearts.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, May 18, at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro.
