Randolph Bennett James, 90, passed to his eternal home on February 20, 2018. Randolph, or more lovingly called, RB or Randy, was born in Surry County, Virginia on September 9, 1927 to Albert and Essie James.
He was raised a farmer’s son and valued agriculture at its highest. Randolph proudly served his country with the United States Army, serving in Okinawa. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Randolph chose Virginia Tech as his college, finishing with a BS in Agriculture. He was a proud Hokie.
Randolph met Audra Hawkins while teaching high school in Surry, Virginia. The two were married on December 21, 1952 and had 64 loving years together. Randolph was a devoted husband and father who loved God, his family, his friends and his community. He was an active member and made Roseboro First Baptist Church his focal point for spiritual direction. He worked in agricultural sales with Continental Grain for over 35years where he was the first in the company to receive the esteemed Pacesetter Award. Upon retirement, Randolph furthered his passion for the business world, owning and operating James Trading Company in Roseboro for the past 23 years. He was an avid golfer and spent many pleasurable hours on the course.
Randolph is survived by his wife, Audra and their four children. Barbara Ellen Noble (Sam), Randi Kelly (Randy), Rosemary Simpson (Telfair) and Robert James: 6 grandchildren, Audra Leigh Rankin (Hunter), Hunter Noble (Remy), Wilson Simpson, Coleman Simpson, Madelyn James, Cooper James ; one great-granddaughter, Adelaide Rankin; one sister Margaret J. Oliver, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Roseboro First Baptist Church, Friday, February 23 at 1:00pm with a family visitation following in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Roseboro First Baptist Church, 3720 S. Salemburg Highway, Salemburg, NC 28385; or Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church, 7365 New Design Road, Elberon, VA 23846.

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family. Words alone can not ease the pain when grieving the loss of a love one. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". May God give you and your family comfort in your loving memories and in His promise that soon we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope, with deepest sympathy and warmth of heart.
